The European Platform for Democratic Elections (EPDE) continues to fight the phenomenon of “politically biased observation”. A new EPDE publication shows how politically-motivated election observation tries to mislead the public around the globe.
In 2018, biased observation missions “monitored”, among others, the presidential election and the regional elections in Russia, the illegitimate presidential election in Crimea, the elections in Cambodia and Zimbabwe and the illegitimate “general elections” in the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics.
On behalf of EPDE, Anton Shekhovtsov researched names and affiliation of the so-called “observers” and analysed their background and networks. All of these reports can now be found in a new booklet: “Politically biased election observation—a threat to the integrity of international institutions”. The booklet comprises analyses and recommendations that help to identify and react to any kind of politically influenced election observation.
The publication is available in English and Russian languages and contains six reports by Anton Shekhovtsov as well as a summarizing EPDE policy paper.
